BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne Lady Jackets, with a hard fought game, came out with the 60-51 victory over Concordia University Texas on Saturday in the Brownwood Coliseum.
With a tight Concordia defense HPU started the game off with a 14-11 deficit. Howard Payne with the shaky start regained their composure and hustled back to led 25-22 at the half. Leading the Jackets in scoring the first half was senior Stacy Blalock with 9 points and sophomore Hope Hohertz with 8.
The Lady Jackets jumped out ahead in the second 31-27 with 15:45 left on the clock. Continuing to play tight defense the Tornados kept HPU's lead short, 44-39 at 4:56 in the half. Stacey Blalock scored 13 in the second half. Senior Kim Hoffman also came out shooting in the second with ten points.
With all four seniors on the floor, the Jackets continue to broaden their lead. After a combined team effort the Jackets come out on top with a 60-51 win.
HPU was led by Stacy Blalock with a game high 22 points, also Kim Hoffman had 17, Hope Hohertz 11 and Meia Hall 10. Hope Hohertz also ended the game with 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
Concordia University Texas was led by Kerrie Carter with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Kassandra Bills and Lanean Harris both finished with 10 points. Kassandra Bills also lead her team in steals with 3.
Howard Payne improve to 23-0 overall and 19-0 in the ASC, while Concordia falls to 14-9 overall and 12-7 in ASC play.
The Lady Jackets will be in Seguin on Thursday taking on the Texas Lutheran Lady Bulldogs at 5:30pm.
