UT-Dallas Comets Sweep Howard Payne, 2-0, 10-3

RICHARDSON, Texas – UT Dallas senior pitcher Mark Cox tossed the first no-hitter in program history as the Comets defeated Howard Payne 2-0 in the first game of a four-game series Friday afternoon at the UT Dallas Field.

UT Dallas (9-3) used a 13-hit attack in the nightcap for a 10-3 victory and the  doubleheader sweep.

Cox (3-0), a senior from Coldspring, Texas, was near-perfect as he walked one batter in the seven-inning contest. He allowed a two-out walk to the ninth hitter in the lineup, Chris Pucci, in the third inning.

In the nightcap, UT Dallas jumped out to a 7-0 in the first two innings en route to the 10-3 win.

Jared Smith hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot to give UTD a 7-0 lead.

Howard Payne (5-7) stranded nine runners in the nightcap. Taylor Zambreski hit a solo home run to right field to highlight the Yellow Jackets' day.

The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m.
