BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team falls to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 5-15,5-18,1-9 at Don Shepard Park this weekend.
The Jackets finish the season 14-26 overall and 8-13 in the ASC, while Mary Hardin-Baylor improves to 28-10 and 14-7 in ASC action.
The Jackets lost game one of the series 5-16. Adam Garcia received the loss for the Jackets throwing 5.0 innings allowing 14 hits and 9 runs. Blake Shaffer had the hot bat for the Jackets with one double and a two-run homerun in the game.
UMHB held an 18-5 lead going into the seventh inning of game two of the scheduled double-header when it was delayed to Sunday afternoon at 2pm due to darkness. UMHB went on to win that game 19-5. HPU's Jimmy May got the loss giving up 5 runs on 4 hits to start the game. Cale Thompson and Nick Loving each recorded 2 hits in the game.
In game three, Howard Payne starter Colby Rowley held UMHB scoreless for the first four innings before giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. The Jackets went on to lose 1-9. HPU senior Adam Garcia had a sac fly in the bottom of the ninth inning the score senior Jason Reasz to give the Jackets their only run. Kyle Lloyd and Nick Loving each had 2 hits in the game for Howard Payne.
