BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team fell from second in the American Southwest Conference West Division standings to a 4-way tie for third with three losses(9-12,1-6,2-9) to Hardin-Simmons this weekend at Don Shepard Park.
The Yellow Jackets have lost 11 of the last 12 games played against Hardin-Simmons.
Adam Garcia got the loss in game one for the Yellow Jackets pitching 7.0 innings. Garcia held HSSU scoreless for four innings before 6 runs on 13 hits. He walked three and struck-out 2.
Colby Rowley started game two for Howard Payne throwing 4.2 innings. Rowley gave up 6 runs on 10 hits, walking 4 and striking-out 6.
Chase LaPenna got the loss in game three giving up 9 runs on 10 hits. Mason Rihn came on in relief in that game pitching 5.1 innings allowing just 2 hits and no runs.
Jose Sierra and Taylor Zambreski both hit well for the Jackets in the series, recording 5 and 6 hits respectively with each having 2 RBI.
The Jackets will travel to Fort Worth on Tuesday for a non-conference double-header against Texas Wesleyan before going to Abilene for ASC series with McMurry on the weekend.
