BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets softball got a four-game sweep against Sul Ross State this weekend and moved into fourth place in the American Southwest Conference West Division standings.
The Lady Jackets run-ruled Sul Ross State in all four games, 10-1, 12-4, 8-0, 11-1.
Freshman Melissa Hall picked-up two wins for the Lady Jackets pitching in the 1st and 3rd games of the series. In her two complete game wins she only allowed 3 walks and 6 hits. Hall struck-out 11 and posted a .82 ERA in the two appearances.
Junior Kate McLaughlin got the other two wins for Howard Payne. McLaughlin struck-out 9 and only allowed a .222 batting average against her for the weekend.
Seven Lady Jackets posted over .400 batting averages against Sul Ross State in the series, Cory Lee(.625), Kate McLaunghlin(.600), Kristi Pinkerton(.545), Lauren Bollich(.500), Lauren Vesely(.500), and Counrtni Buster(.455). Howard Payne hit .489 as a team in the weekend series.
The Lady Jackets will travel to Seguin for an ASC series with Texas Lutheran next weekend.
