IRVING, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jacket softball team defeated East Texas Baptist 6-2 in game one on Friday but fell in the seventh inning to the University of Texas at Tyler 5-9 on day two of the 2008 American Southwest Conference Softball Tournament at Southwest Park.
Howard Payne got their first win ever at the ASC softball tournament against East Texas Baptist University.
In their game versus UT-Tyler HPU opened up a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a 3-run homerun by freshman Ashley Silva. UTT added to runs over the next two innings.
It was the top of the 7th that was the difference in the game. Howard Payne only needed three outs with a 5-2 lead, but UTT scored 7 runs in that innings to secure the come from behind victory.
The Lady Jackets finish their season at 26-16 overall having one of the best seasons in school history.
Jenna Middleton and Brooke Schnieder of Howard Payne were named to the All-Tournament Team.
