HPU Takes Concordia In Five

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jacket volleyball team fell down 1-2 in the match but rallied to take sets 4 and 5 to defeat the Tornados of Concordia University Texas in American Southwest Conference action.

Standout freshman Tamika Heline had 11 kills and 35 digs for the Lady Jackets in the 3-2 victory over Concordia.

After taking set one 25-17 the Lady Jackets dropped sets two and three 24-26 and 19-25. HPU rallied in sets four and five, 25-15 and 15-9, take take the match and improve to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action. Concordia fell to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in ASC play.

Sydney Bryant  had 13 kills for HPU with Amanda Gutierrez and Megan Pick adding 9 kills each. Amy Crouch and Patricia Brown had 23 and 12 assists respectively.

The Tornados were led by Kevyn Jackson with 18 kills and Juli Applewhaite with 26 assists. Sara Keithley added 31 digs for Concordia.

The Lady Jackets will be on the road Saturday taking on Hardin-Simmons and McMurry in Abilene.
