Jackets Fall To 1-1

MUSKOGEE, OK – The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket drive in the closing minutes come up short and the Jackets fall 6-13 in a non-conference game to Bacone College at Indian Stadium. 

In this first ever meeting between these schools, Howard Payne was 0 of 2 in red zone chances while Bacone was 3 of 3. 

The Yellow Jackets scored first in the game on a 23-yard pass to Justin Havard from Zach Hubbard. The Nathan Gilbert extra point failed making the score 6-0 HPU with 7:24 left in the first. HPU QB Zach Hubbard was 23 of 43 passing for 239 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. 

Bacone College scored on the next possession on a Del Rio 23-yard pass to Robinson, 7-6 Bacone with 3:45 left in the first quarter. 

Bacone added two field goals in the second half, one from 36 yards at 6:15 in the third and the second from 27 yards with 14:50 left in the game. 

With 2 minutes left in the game the Yellow Jackets drove down to the Bacone 6-yard line. With a 1st and goal from the 6-yard line the Jackets were unable to get into the endzone turning the ball over on downs.

led HPU with 9 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 for loss. Aaron Alvarado and Ronald Wright each added 8 tackles. 

The Jackets fall to 1-1 on the season, while Bacone improves to 2-2 overall.
Howard Payne will be on the road next week in Alpine, Texas taking on ASC foe Sul Ross State at 5:00 pm.
