SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jackets took American Southwest Conference volleyball power Texas Lutheran to five games eventually falling 2-3 in the 2008 conference opener for both teams.

Playing Texas Lutheran tough in volleyball has not been anything new for Lady Jackets, last season HPU defeated TLU in Brownwood. 

After dropping game one 14-25, Howard Payne took games two and three 27-25, 25-19. Texas Lutheran when on to take game five 15-9. 

This week's ASC West Division Offensive Player of the Week Tamika Heline led HPU with 15 kills, a .301 attack pct, and 17 digs. She was followed closely by Sydney Bryant with 11 kills. Amy Crouch led the Lady Jackets with 23 assists.

The Lady Jackets fall to 3-2 overall, 0-1 in ASC action, while Texas Lutheran inproves to 4-1 overall, 1-0 ASC play.

HPU will play this weekend in Tyler at the University of Texas-Tyler volleyball classic. They will open that tournament against Loyola University(LA).
