Lady Jackets Roll Concordia

Elaine Hobbs (#30) had 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in the win

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Lady Jackets defeat Concordia University Texas 74-56 with an outstanding showing from the three-point line Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Howard Payne came out shooting the long ball, making three from behind the arc in the first five minutes on the game. The HPU defense kept Concordia from reaching double digits till eight minutes into the first half. The Lady Jackets led 41-23 at the half.

Hope Hohertz came out aggressive for the Jackets the second half, scoring 7 points in the first five minutes. Defensively the Lady Jackets remained tight on Concordia, holding them to only 7 points in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

A jumper by Sarah Pfiester with 9:04 left in the game gave the Lady Jackets a 37-point lead (69-32). Concordia tried to make a late comeback outscoring the Lady Jackets 24-5 in the last minutes of play. CTX shorten the gap, but the Lady Jackets lead held strong. Howard Payne secured the win 74-56.

Freshmen Brittany Zamora had a standout game for the Lady Jackets with 18 points, 12 of them three pointers. Hope Hohertz, with a great second half, put up 12 for the Jackets. Katy Sarem added 11 and Elaine Hobbs followed with a solid performance of 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Kathy Ashley led Concordia in points with 12. Whitney Clancy and Kassandra Bills added 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Lady Jackets improve to 12-2 overall and 8-2 in ASC play, while Concordia falls to 4-7 overall and 4-5 in ASC play.

Howard Payne will play their next game at home against Mary Hardin Baylor on Saturday at 1:00pm.
