Jackets Lose To UT-Dallas

BROWNWOOD, Texas- Howard Payne men's soccer took the lead early but were not able to hold it as they lose 3-1 to UT-Dallas Saturday at Citizens National Bank Field. 

Thirty-three minutes into the game Jaime Benitez connects and sends a rocket off a free kick to score the game's first goal to give HPU the early 1-0 lead and take his season goal total to four.

Two minutes later the game returns back even when HPU fouls UTD in the box setting up a successful penalty kick for UTD's Stephen Ambrose.

Even though UTD outshot HPU 8-4, the first half ended even 1-1.

Two minutes into the second period UTD's Michael Anyirah assisted Cory Roth in taking the 2-1 lead.

The final straw was another assist from Michael Anyirah but to Stephen Ambrose to give UTD the deciding 3-1 lead in the 62nd minute. 

The Jackets had seven shots on goal to UTD's six, but keeping is what decided the game. UTD keeper Jake Brandon made four saves, while HPU keeper Francisco Medina had three in the game. 

Howard Payne falls to 5-6-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the ASC. UTD goes to 7-3-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the ASC.

The men next go on the road to Pineville, Louisiana against Louisiana College Oct. 15 and then head to Clinton, Mississippi to take on Mississippi College the following Oct. 17.
