Jackets Open Season With Win

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket baseball team opened their 2009 season with an 8-5 road win over Southwestern University Wednesday.

The Jackets got three RBI from junior Kyle Lloyd and two RBI from freshman DH Garrett Isom. Howard Payne used 5 different pitchers in the game and gave up 14 Southwestern hits. The Jacket defense was error free while Southwestern committed 2.

Four different HPU players had 2 hits in the game. Howard Payne got the majority of their offense in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings and also recorded 13 total hits. The Jackets bats tallied 2 runs in the 3rd and 4th, and then posted 3 runs in the top of the 5th.

Evan Henson was credited with the win for the Jackets and Dustin Climer picked up the save. Henson pitched three innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. Will Hood also pitched two innings for the Jackets giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 2 strike-outs.

Howard Payne will play next at home on Friday and Saturday in double headers versus Sterling College (KS).
