Jackets Lose DH To Mississippi College

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Howard Payne with two wins on Saturday afternoon at Frierson Field. 

Mississippi College won the first game 7-0 and then defeated the Yellow Jackets by a scored of 6-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.

In the first game, the Choctaws wasted no time, taking the lead 2-0 with RBI singles.The Choctaws extended the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI double and then tacked on another run to take a 5-0 lead after four innings. In the fifth, the Choctaws put the game away with two runs on RBI singles.

Dustin Climer (0-2) took the loss for Howard Payne, giving up nine hits and five earned runs in 5.0 innings pitched. Climer struck out six and walked three in the game. Kyle Lloyd was the only player for Howard Payne to have a multi-hit game with two base hits.

In the second game, both pitchers came out firing up zeros in the first three innings. MC's Jack Craven and HPU's Evan Henson matched clean frames through the first three, despite the Choctaws putting runners on second and third in the first inning with no outs. 

MC struck first in the fourth inning with two runs that ultimately decided the game. Howard Payne scored their lone run of the day in the fifth inning when Royce Rodriguez singled in Will Garlick after he had doubled with two outs. 

Henson (2-1) went 5.0 innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs in the loss. 

The Jackets will start a three-game series with the University of the Southwest on Monday.
