Lady Jackets Defeat Schreiner 83-56

Elaine Hobbs had a career high 18 points against Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jackets get a career-high 18 points from Elaine Hobbs and defeat the Lady Mountaineers of Schreiner University 83-56 in the Brownwood Coliseum Thursday evening.

The Lady Mountaineers stayed with Howard Payne early on but HPU gained and built a 41-30 halftime lead. Hope Hohertz had a big first half and led the Lady Jackets in the period with 14 points, 10 from the free throw line.

Howard Payne went on a 14-1 run to start the second half, five of them coming from Elaine Hobbs.
The Lady Jackets shot 76 percent from the free throw line and out-rebounded the Lady Mountaineers 43-34 in the game.

The Lady Mountaineers try to make a come back in the last five minutes of play outscoring the Lady Jackets 13-9. Their last minute charge was not enough and the Lady Jackets took the win 83-56.

Hobbs had an outstanding game for HPU with a career-high 18 points and six rebounds. Hohertz also led with a double-double of 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds with 6 assists. Katy Sarem added 14 points for the Lady Jackets. Mionca Hall grabbed 5 steals and dished out 4 assists.

Schreiner's Hannah Burleson led the Mountaineers with 22 points and Desiree Contreras with 13.

Howard Payne improved to 15-5 overall and 11-5 in ASC play while Schreiner fell to 1-19 overall and 1-15 in ASC play.

The Lady Jackets take on Texas Lutheran next in Brownwood, Saturday the 7th at 1:00 pm.
