The Yellow Jackets have a five game winning streak

AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket baseball team swept the Concordia University Texas Tornados in American Southwest Conference action, after winning the final game of the series 5-2, at Nelson Field on Monday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets improve to 11-10 overall and 4-2 in the ASC, while the loss drops Concordia to 11-11 overall and 1-5 in ASC action.

Howard Payne jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after starting the game off with back to back RBI doubles.

Concordia got on the board in the bottom of the third after a single brought in their first run. Concordia added another run in the inning to complete the Tornado scoring for the game.

The Yellow Jackets padded their lead, scoring solo runs in the fifth, seventh and ninth to close out the 5-2 victory.

HPU catcher Garrett Isom had a great game at the plate recording 3 hits and 2 RBI. Both Howard Payne and Concordia compiled nine hits each.

Dustin Climer got the complete game win for the Jackets giving up just two runs on nine hits and strikingout five. Concordia starter, Ben Whiteley picked up the loss for the Tornados after seven complete innings of work allowing eight hits with four strikeouts.

Howard Payne will play next at home versus Texas Lutheran University on Friday and Saturday.
