Jackets' Bats Come Alive On Day 2 With Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket baseball team split games on day two of the Schreiner University series, 1-4, 24-12 at Don Shepard Park on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams had 5 hits in game one of the double header. Schreiner was able to take advantage of their five hits and scored runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th innings. The Jackets got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when a Kyle Lloyd triple scored Billy Ray Cruz. Jackets dropped game one 1-4

Dustin Climer got the loss for HPU and Hermes picked up the win for Schreiner.

Game two displayed the Jackets full offensive power. Howard Payne recorded 23 hits and 23 RBI in the game which included an 11-run inning in the fourth for the Jackets. Schreiner used seven different pitchers in the game which was eventually called due to darkness in the seventh inning. Eight HPU players had more than one hit in the game and four players had three or more RBI. Tops were Kyle Lloyd and Ryan breeding with 7 and 5 RBI respectively. The Jackets posted the 24-12 win.

Quaid Cross got the win for the Jackets and Schreiner's Valley got the loss.

The Jackets improve to 7-10 overal and 1-2 in ASC play, and Schreiner now stands at 8-7, 2-1 in ASC play.

Howard Payne will play next on Monday at Don Shepard Park in  non-conference action against Concordia-Nebraska at 2:00 pm.
