Jackets Split With McMurry

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team split in double header action with McMurry University, 9-10 and 8-7 in American Southwest Conference action at Don Shepard Park.

After being down 0-5 early in game one of the double header, the Yellow Jackets rallied back to take the lead 7-5 in the 5th inning. McMurry tied in up at 7-7 the next inning and regained the lead 7-10 in the 6th. The Jackets had an opportunity in the bottom of the seventh to win the game but fell short for a 9-10 loss.

Jimmy May got the loss for Howard Payne and Cory Davis picked up the win for McMurry. Dustin Climer recorded 3 RBI on 2 hits in the game.

Game two was another battle with HPU winning holding off McMurry in the 9th inning for the 8-7 win.The Jackets were down 5-7 at the end of the 5th innning. HPU tied the game up at 7-7 in the next inning. HPU scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 8th when Dustin Climer singled through the right side to score Ryan Breeding. Climer again recorded 3 RBI in game two.

Jimmy May got the win for Howard Payne and Colton Smith was tagged with the loss. HPU stands at 13-20,12-6 in ASC play and McMurry stands at 21-13 and 6-12 in ASC action.
