Jackets Drop LeTourneau 2-0

Paul Deets scored his first goal of the season against LeTourneau

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket soccer team defeated visiting LeTourneau University 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action Friday afternoon at Citizen National Bank soccer field.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. Jaime Benitez broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute on assists from Scott Irias and Shane Cazad. The goal was Jaime Benitez's first regular season goal as a Jacket.

Paul Deets got into the action in the 70th minute following up a rally in the box. Assist was from Shawn Stratton.

Francisco Medina posted the shutout in goal playing all 90 minutes and recording 4 saves.

Howard Payne improves to 3-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in ASC action, while LeTourneau falls to 2-3-2, 0-2-1 in ASC play.

The Jackets play tomorrow at home versus East Texas Baptist at 4:00 pm.
