Jackets Get 2nd Consecutive Shutout

BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket soccer team defeated visiting East Texas Baptist University 1-0 in American Southwest Conference action Saturday afternoon at Citizen National Bank soccer field.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. Kelton McMillan headed the only goal of the game in the 61st minute off a cross from midfielder Malcolm Wentworth. The goal by McMillan was his second game winner of the season

Senior defender, Hugo Uribe went down with a shoulder injury at the midpoint of the second half. Without top defender Uribe the Jackets held strong and didn't allow another shot on goal to hold the 1-0 victory.

Francisco Medina's one save was enough to post another shutout. This is now the second consecutive shutout for the Jackets.

Jackets on offense dominated posting 9 shots on goal to ETBU's 1.

Howard Payne improves to 4-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in ASC action, ETBU falls to 1-4-1, and 1-2-0 in ASC play.

The men next play in Tyler against University of Texas at Tyler, Oct. 1.
