Volleyball Goes 1-2 At ASC Crossover

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne volleyball team went 1-2 at the first American Southwest Conference crossover tournament this weekend. HPU lost to UT-Tyler and host Mississippi College but picked up a win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

In the first of two matches on Friday, HPU lost 1-3 (25-21, 13-25, 25-19, 25-23) to the University of Texas - Tyler. Tamika Heline led all with 16 kills. Cathie Kilmartin followed with 12.

In match two of the day, the Lady Jackets bounced back to defeat the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor  3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22). Sarah Bishop led with 10 kills and Amber Cantu-Curry had 35 assists.

On Saturday, Howard Payne lost a five game match to host Mississippi College 2-3 (25-12, 25-14, 20-25, 23-25, 15-7). Cathie Kilmartin led with 10 kills, Amber Cantu-Curry had 30 assists and Lauren Kalee Jones had 23 digs.

Setter Amber Cantu-Curry passed 1,000 assists in her career in the match versus Mary-Hardin Baylor.

Howard Payne nows stands at 9-9 overall and 3-6 ASC play. They will play next on Tuesday in Kerrville against ASC opponent Schreiner University.
