Cameron Jannati assisted on the first goal versus LC

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne men's soccer team got their third consecutive American Southwest Conference win with a 2-0 victory over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon.

The first goal came on a counter attack by HPU that ended with Cameron Jannati tapping over a pass behind a LC defender in the box to find Jesus Vazquez for the goal. Vazquez found bottom of the net and the 1-0 lead just 16 minutes into the game.

The next score for the Jackets would come in the 57th minute when Freshman Kori Stone scored thanks to an assist from Chris Martinez off the right side of the box between defenders. That brought the score to 2-0 HPU.

The HPU defense held strong and keep the shutout only allowing three total shots on goal throughout the game.

HPU finished with 16 shots on goal out of 41 attempts. HPU had nine corner kicks, LC had none.

The HPU men go to 7-3-1 on the year and 5-3-0 in ASC action. LC continues their skid falling to 0-12-0 overall and 0-7-0 in ASC play.

The next game for the men is at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 in Abilene against Hardin-Simmons University.
