Jackets Split With TLU

Kyle Lloyd had a big game at the plate to help the Jackets to a victory over TLU

SEGUIN, Texas – In a wild and windy doubleheader the Howard Payne University baseball team dropped game one but won the second in extra innings to split the two American Southwest Conference games Saturday at Texas Lutheran University. 

Howard Payne lost game one 21-5 but won 14-10 in the series finale. TLU won the conference series 2-1 with the doubleheader split and Friday's 7-3 win over the Yellow Jackets. 

The Yellow Jackets held a 7-0 second-game advantage on Saturday but TLU rallied to take a 9-7 lead with a five-run eighth inning. 

Howard Payne responded with three runs in the ninth and four more runs in the 10th to give TLU their second home loss of the season.

HPU holds an overall mark of 11-10 with a division record of 2-4 and TLU now stands at 17-6 overall and at 4-2 in the ASC West Division.

In game two, HPU's Kyle Lloyd homered, collected three hits, and drove in four runs. Lloyd had a two-run single in the 10th to secure the win for the Jackets.

Robert Anders pitched three innings for HPU in relief and picked up the victory. He improved to 3-2. Sean Kistler took the loss for TLU. 

Howard Payne will be on the road next weekend for a three game conference series in Alpine against Sul Ross State University.
