Jackets Score Winning Run In 9th

BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne Jacket baseball team bounced back from a two game deficit winning 4-3 against University of the Ozarks to finish off their three game series on Saturday.

The Jackets started off strong with a 2-0 lead in the third. Ozarks then put up three runs to take the lead, with Cory Briggs, Scott Dietz and Jeremy Hogan each scoring a run. With big plays coming late in the game from HPU, the Jackets tied it up 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI from Nick Loving scoring Rey Rosales. A walk off base hit from Ryan Breeding in the ninth would bring in pinch runner Lucas Creed to score, ending the game with HPU up 4-3.

Ozark's pitcher Brett Wood was charged with the loss. HPU's Robert Anders took the win giving up no runs, no errors and six strikeouts in his 4.2 innings, finishing up the game for the Jackets.

Howard Payne's Will Garlick went 2 for 4 from the plate with a double, while Kyle Lloyd was 2 for 5, scoring one run.

The Yellow Jackets advance to 7-6 on the year, while University of the Ozarks moves to 5-9.

Howard Payne will be back in action at home on Wednesday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m., taking on Texas Wesleyan University.
