Jaime Benitez scored two goals versus TLU

SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's soccer team posted their second shutout of the year in a 3-0 win over Texas Lutheran University Friday afternoon.

Jaime Benitez scored the first two goals for HPU. The goals were scored a second shy of three minutes apart. The first goal came at the 49:44 mark, and the second goal came at the 52:43 mark.

Danny Jaime assisted on the first Benitez goal, and TJ Mayfield added the assist on the second goal.

Both of Benitez's goals came on long-range line drives that crept inside the cross bar and finished just outside the reach of the TLU keeper.

Patrick Barker scored the third HPU goal with an assist from Joseph Gardner.

TLU out-shot HPU 7-3 in the first half when the Bulldogs played with the wind. When HPU had the wind, the Yellow Jackets out-shot TLU 20-7.

Howard Payne improved to 7-8 overall and to 5-6 in the ASC. TLU dropped to 1-15 overall and to 1-11 in the ASC.

 The Yellow Jackets will finsh out the regular season on Saturday versus Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
