Lady Jackets Drop First Contest Of The Year

BROWNWOOD, Texas – An early second half run by Louisiana College led to an 80-72 loss for the Howard Payne University women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in the Brownwood Coliseum.

Louisiana College scored 35 points off of 29 Howard Payne turnovers. The Lady Jackets did outrebound LC 56-49 but it was LC that put up 82 shots in the game, 29 of which were three-point attempts.

The game was close throughout the first half with LC holding a slight 35-30 halftime lead. It was a 13-2 run by LC to start the second that proved to be the difference in the game.

LC extended their lead to as much as 20, 58-38 with 13:35 to play in the game. The Lady Jackets were able to chip away at the lead and cut it to 9, 67-58 on a Senae Dillard layup with 5:38 to play.

That would be about as close as the Lady Jackets could get with Louisiana College securing the game 80-72.

Howard Payne was led by Tresta Donahoo with her second straight 25 point performance. She was 7 of 12 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Donahoo added six assists and seven rebounds to her numbers.

Dana Marrs followed with 13 points and five rebounds. Kayla Scott scored 11 off the bench. Senae Dillard grabbed a game high 16 rebounds and Britani Gattis had 11 rebounds.

Kala Chenier led LC with 20 points and Natosha Gottlieb added 14 points with 15 rebounds. Danisha Allison had 12 points.

The Lady Jackets pick up their first loss of the year and stand at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in ASC action. LC improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in conference. HPU will play next on December 8th in Longview, Texas versus LeTourneau University. It will be a 1:00 pm tipoff.
