Jackets Fall In Series Finale To CTX

AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team fell 8-2 in the series finale with Concordia University Texas Monday afternoon in conference action.

Concordia scored seven unanswered runs over the first five innings of the game. Howard Payne would score in the sixth when Houston Holmes singled through the right side to bring home Jordan Hammontree. The Jackets added another run in the top of the next inning. This time it was Hammontree pushing one through the left side to score Dustin Cole. Concordia added one more run in the next frame and went on to win 8-2.

Jonathan Morris got the loss for HPU throwing 7.0 innings, giving up seven runs on 10 hits. Morris also had four strikeouts with two walks. Kyler Payne and Dustin Kelver also saw time in relief. Sam Dollahite, Carlton Brown, Hammontree each had two hits for HPU. Despite the loss, the Jackets again out hit Conncordia 11-10.

Howard Payne now stands at 5-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play. #18 Concordia improves to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in conference. The Jackets will have a non-conference game with Southwestern University on Tuesday at Don Shepard Park. The start time has been pushed back to 3:00 pm.
