Jackets Fall To UTD In Series Opener

Box Score
BROWNWOOD, Texas - The University of Texas at Dallas used a four-run seventh inning to take the lead and the game 6-4 over Howard Payne University in baseball action Friday at Don Shepard Park.

The Yellow Jackets opened a 3-0 lead over the Comets after four innings due to RBIs by Ryan Abbott and Alan Sailors. UTD would score one run in the fifth but it was the four-run seventh that put them ahead. UTD's rally was fueled by two Yellow Jacket fielding errors.

The Jackets would get one run back in the bottom of the inning when a Dustin Cole's sac fly brought home Colton Buzzard. Howard Payne had runners at first and second in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to bring them home falling 6-4 to UTD.

Corey Howie got the loss for HPU throwing 6.1 innings, giving up six runs on five hits and striking out two. Derek Dallas got the win for UTD throwing 7 innings and striking out five. Max Willard recorded the save.

Both teams will play a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 (noon).
