Jackets Take Game One From Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas - After finding themselves 2-0 in the opening frame the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets battle back and take the first of a three-game series with Schreiner University 5-2 Friday at Don Shepard Park.

After giving up the two runs in the first, starting pitcher Corey Howie settled in and went on to record the complete game win. Howie gave up two runs on eight hits and struckout eight. The Jackets took the lead with a three-run third. RBI singles from Jordan Hammontree and Houston Holmes and a sacrifice fly from Colton Brown rounded out the scoring. Howard Payne added two more insurance runs in the fifth with Holmes and Brown again pushing runs across the plate. Alan Sailors when two of three from the plate in the game.

The Yellow Jackets are now 10-13 overall and 3-4 in conference while Schreiner falls to 4-20 overall and 1-6 in conference. The two teams will finish out the three-game series tomorrow with a double header starting at 1:00 pm.
