BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Yellow Jackets recorded four hits while giving up eleven as Texas Lutheran University downed Howard Payne 9-2 Friday at Don Shepard Park.

Howard Payne fell to 11-18 overall and to 4-9 in ASC West action. TLU moved to 19-9 overall and to 10-3 in the ASC West Division.

TLU scored four runs in the first and broke the game open with five runs in the sixth. The Jackets got their two runs in the bottom of the second when Jordan Hammontree and Ryan Abbott were walked with the bases loaded.

Abbott was 2 of 4 from the plate for the Jackets with Tyrone Ahin and Colton Buzzard also adding hits. Reed Klose got the loss for HPU throwing just 1.1 innings. Mitchell Marquis, Derrick Berlanga and Garrett Sosa saw time in relief.

With the win, Texas Lutheran senior pitcher Brad Orosey tied the American Southwest Conference career record for pitching wins.

On Friday, HPU and TLU continue the ASC West three-game series with a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Don Shepard Park.
