Jackets Get 3-2 Win Over Ozarks

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne got two goals from forward Eric Young in a 3-2 Yellow Jacket win over visiting University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Soccer Field.

The match was not as close as the score indicated with the Jackets outshooting the University of the Ozarks 16-8. 10 of the 16 shots for the Jackets were on goal. Ozarks did lead corner kicks 9-0.

Ozarks got on the scoreboard first netting a shot at the seven minute mark. The Jackets then tied the game a 1-1 in the 26th minute when Edgar Villa found Kevin Ruiz through the Ozarks defense for the score.

HPU scored again in the 56th minute on a cross from Villa finished off by an Eric Young header. Then in the 74th minute Young would steal the ball from an Ozarks defender and score an unassisted goal from 8 yards out.

Ozarks scored again in the 82nd minute on a header off of a corner kick, but the Jackets would shut the door from there and post the 3-2 conference win.

Howard Payne is now 3-2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Ozarks falls to 0-4-1 overall and 0-2 in conference. The Jackets will play next on September 20th in Clinton, MS against Mississippi College.
