Jackets Claim 70-61 Win

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne's Brandon Gould scored a game 16 points to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 70-61 conference victory over Texas Lutheran University Saturday afternoon.

Howard Payne outrebounded Texas Lutheran 45-37 and held the Bulldogs to 34% shooting in the game. The Yellow Jackets also got good production from their bench outscoring TLU 28-17.

TLU would score the first points of the game but the Jackets quickly took the lead. HPU led the remainder of the game and claimed the conference win 70-61.

Two free-throws brought TLU within three, 64-61 with 32 seconds remaining in the game. The Yellow Jackets then went 6 of 6 from the line in the final seconds to secure the game.

Brandon Gould was 10 of 10 from the line and dished out a game high six assists with his game high 16 points. Donovan Ford scored 10 off the bench sparked by 3 of 3 shooting from behind the arc. Michael Thompson had a team high 13 rebounds and JaKalan Gayden blocked four shots.

TLU was led by Brandon Potts with 16 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Garrett Wilkins and Justin Lindsey each added 10 points.

Howard Payne improves to 5-10 overall and 3-6 in ASC action. Texas Lutheran stands at 5-11 overall and 3-7 in conference. The Jackets will play next at home on Tuesday versus Sul Ross State at 7:30 pm.
