Jackets Fall 7-1 To ETBU

Shay Pate scored his seventh goal of the season versus ETBU

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas - Despite keeping up with East Texas Batist in shots taken, the Howard Payne men's soccer team would go on to lose 7-1 in conference action Thursday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field.

The Yellow Jackets kept up with East Texas Baptist in shot 19-16 but it was in shots on goal where ETBU held the advantage 10-4.

East Texas Baptist held a 3-0 halftime lead after scoring goals in the 15th, 21st and 40th minutes. They would add four more goals in the second half to take a 7-0 lead with 22 minutes remaining in regulation. ETBU was led by Peter Fitzsimmons with three goals and one assist.

Shay Pate would net a goal for the Jackets in the 88th minute after stealing a pass back and scoring one on one with the keeper. The goal was the seventh of the season for Pate.

Ryan Young would get the start in goal and the loss playing the first 57 minutes in goal. Young recorded two saves and allowed five goals. Brice Gardner played the remaining minutes in goal recording one save and allowing two goals.

Howard Payne is now 1-16-0 overall and ETBU stands at 4-5-2 overall. The Jackets will finish out the regular season at home next Thursday versus Hardin-Simmons at 3:00 pm. The HPU seniors will be recognized at the game.
