VB Finishes Season At Southwestern Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Howard Payne volleyball team finished out the season at the Southwestern University Tournament this weekend. The Lady Jackets picked up a 3-2 win over Schreiner University and recorded losses to Texas Lutheran and Austin College.

On Friday, the Lady Jackets fell to former American Southwest Conference opponent Texas Lutheran University 3-0 (14-25,24-27,20-25). Hannah Hicks led with eight kills and four blocks assists. Shelby Bridges had a match high 25 digs.

In HPU's first match on Saturday, the Lady Jackets would take Schreiner University to the limit taking the match 3-2. HPU dropped the first two sets 19-25 and 16-25. They battled back to claim the next three 25-12, 25-21 and the final set in dramatic fashion 18-16.

Sarah Bishop recorded a match high 15 kills along with 17 digs. Hicks followed with nine kills and seven total blocks. The Lady Jackets offense was sparked by 15 service aces and were led by Tolli Wylie with five aces.

Howard Payne would fall in their final match of the tournament 3-1 (18-25,25-20,12-25,20-25) to Austin College. Three Lady Jackets finished with double digits in kills, Hicks with 15, Bishop with 10 and Taylor Jordan with 10. Allyson Adams has 38 assists and Bridges had 20 digs.

Howard Payne finishes the season at 17-17 overall, the most wins the Lady Jackets have had in a season in over ten years.
