Lady Jackets Upset By HSU

Box Score ABILENE, Texas – The Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls would outrebound Howard Payne University by fifteen as the Lady Jackets fall to the 72-56 in conference action Saturday evening at the Mabee Athletic Complex.

Howard Payne, who leds the ASC in rebounding margin, was outrebounded 47-32 by Hardin-Simmons. The Cowgirls also limited the Lady Jackets to just 34% shooting from the field.

With the Lady Jackets leading 27-26 at the halftime break, Hardin-Simmons would start the second half with a 10-4 run to open up a 41-33 lead with 15:03 left in the game.

Sparked by 50% shooting from the field and 7 of 11 shooting from behind the arc, Hardin-Simmons would then push their lead to as much as 20 points with 2:00 minutes remaining.

Howard Payne was led by Britani Gattis with a game high 16 points. Shardena Hudson and Danyel Bradley each added 12 points. Bradley also had five steals and seven rebounds.

Sara Vargas led Hardin-Simmons with 15 points, eight rebounds and six blocks. Lauren Thomas had 14 points and Kayla Brown had 11 points. Brown also added a game high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Jackets are now 5-2 overall and 4-2 in ASC play. Hardin-Simmons stands at 2-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Howard Payne will play next at the Trinity University Tournament in San Antonio, Texas. The Lady Jackets will play Illinois Wesleyan University on December, 28th at 5:00 pm and George Fox University on December 29th at 3:00 pm.
