Lady Jackets Fall At Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas – The Howard Payne women's basketball team could keep up with 60% first half shooting by Concordia University Texas and fell 88-69 to finish out the regular season. Lady Jackets now to host American Southwest Conference Tournament next weekend.

Concordia shot 60% from the field in the first period to lead 53-35 at halftime. The CTX lead was sparked by 7 of 10 shooting from behind the arc.

The Lady Jackets shooting percentage did not improve in the second half hitting just 35% of their shots in the game. HPU turned the ball over 22 and was outrebounded 46-33 in the game.

Breanna Conway led HPU with 13 points. Dana Marrs had 12 and Danyel Bradley and Kayla Scott each added 10 points.

CTX was led by Brianna Smith with 24 points, she was 6 of 7 from behind the arc. DJ Vallier had 20 points and 13 rebounds.

The Lady Jackets finish the regular season at 21-4 overall and 16-3 in conference. CTX stands at 17-8 overall and 14-5 in conference. HPU will host the 2013 ASC women's basketball tournament on February 22-24 and will play East Texas Baptist in the opening round on Friday, Feb. 22th at 7:30 pm. The official tournament bracket will be release Tuesday (Feb. 19) morning.
