BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a pair of wins over Mary Hardin-Baylor 2-1 and 3-0 Friday evening.

It was an error in the fourth that allowed Tylene Middleton to score and a Katie Poerner homerun in the fifth that lead to a 2-1 Lady Jacket win in game one.

Evangelina Tellez was 2-for-3 from the plate. Haleigh Caraway got the complete game win giving up just one run on six hits.

In game two, Middleton started the scoring with a solo shot to right field in the first. Poerner would homer herself in the third to give the Lady Jackets a 2-0 lead.

A Tellez single in the seventh bringing home Larisa Salazar, who pitch ran for Amanda Cruddas, rounded out the HPU scoring 3-0.

Tellez was again 2-for-3 from the plate. Baillie Trumble got the complete game win allowing just four hits in the shutout victory.

Howard Payne is now 9-8 overall and 4-0 in conference. UMHB stands at 8-8 overall. Both teams will play a double header on Saturday starting at noon.
