BROWNWOOD, Texas – Evangelina Tellez was 4-for-8 from the plate in double header loses for the Howard Payne softball team 8-1 and 9-5 to Concordia University Texas Friday afternoon.

In game one, it was a 4-0 Concordia lead going into the bottom of the fifth when the Lady Jackets would score. A Jessica Morales double to left center would push Amanda Gober home from second base.

Haleigh Caraway got the loss for HPU giving up eight runs on 11 hits in the complete game. Gober finished 2-for-2 from the plate for the Lady Jackets.

In game two, the Lady Jackets would pull within one, 6-5, only to fall 9-5 in the end. Howard Payne's big inning came in the third scoring three. Morales would triple to right center to score Caraway and Evangelina Tellez. Then Shandi Winstead reached on a fielder's choice allowing Morales to score.

Baillie Trumble recorded the loss throwing just the first two innings giving up six runs on 10 hits. Keeley Lowrance gave up seven hits in relief and struckout four.

Howard Payne is now 10-10 overall and 5-3 in conference. Concordia stands at 14-6 overall and 3-3 in conference. The two teams will play another double header on Saturday starting at 11:00 am.
