SB Falls To Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Howard Payne's Haleigh Caraway went 5-for-8 from the plate in non-conference double header losses to Southwestern University, 4-2 and 4-3, Friday afternoon.

Despite recording 10 hits in game one, the Lady Jackets did not score any runs till the seventh. Down 4-0 going into the top of the seventh, HPU would score first on a solo homerun by Clarissa Zatate. Later Amanda Gober singled to right field to score Tylene Middleton.

With the winning run at the plate, the Lady Jacket seventh inning rally ended with a strikeout swinging. Southwestern claimed game one 4-2.

Haleigh Caraway and Gober were each 3-for-4 from the plate in the game. Zarate also had two hits. Keeley Lowrance got the loss for HPU giving up four runs on 13 hits.

In game two, the Lady Jackets were plagued by errors allowing Southwestern to gain an early 2-1 lead. HPU tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth when Evangelina Tellez singled to center field to bring home Katie Poerner.

Southwestern added two to their run total in the bottom of the sixth. HPU again mounted a seventh inning rally scoring on a

Haleigh Caraway single to right field that scored Poerner. This time with the bases load the Lady Jackets grounded out to first to end the game, 4-3 Southwestern.

Poerner was 3-for-4 from the plate in game two. Middleton and Caraway also had two hits each. Caraway recorded the loss for HPU throwing all six inning giving up four runs on six hits.

Howard Payne will play next on April 5-6 in a conference series versus Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.
