SB Splits With Iowa Wesleyan

TUSCON, AZ – The Howard Payne softball held off a late rally by Iowa Wesleyan College to take game two of their double header 7-6 at the Tuscon Invitational. The Lady Jackets lost game one 3-1 to Iowa Wesleyan.

The Lady Jackets led 7-2 going into the final inning of game two. Iowa Wesleyan scored four straight runs and had runners at first and second but the Lady Jackets forced a grounder to end the game and the comeback 7-6.

Amanda Gober was 3-for-3 in the game and Katie Poerner was 2-for-3 from the plate with 2 RBI's. Evangelina Tellez also drove in three runs.

Haleigh Caraway got the complete game win giving up just two earned runs on 10 hits and striking out four.

The Lady Jackets fell in game one of their double header 3-1 to Iowa Wesleyan. HPU would score when Haleigh Caraway reached on an error by the third baseman allowing Katie Poerner to cross home plate.

Baillie Trumble recorded the loss giving up three runs on five hits in the complete game.

Howard Payne is now 5-7 overall and will play Saint Mary's University (MN) on Saturday to round out their games at the Tuscon Invitational.
