BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team secures the series sweep of Sul Ross State University with 8-0 and 3-0 double header wins Saturday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.

In game one, the Lady Jackets held a 3-0 advantage after three and then used a four-run fourth to blow open the game. A Katie Poerner single in the sixth would score Clarissa Salazar to secure the 8-0 run-rule win.

Haleigh Caraway recorded the complete game win striking out three and allowing just three hits and no walks.

In game two, Sul Ross State would outhit Howard Payne 4-3 but the Lady Jackets would prevail 3-0 due to three Sul Ross errors.

HPU got all the runs they would need in the first two frames. HPU scored one in the first on an Amanda Gober double to score Poerner. A Clarissa Zarate sacrifice fly brought home Amanda Cruddas and an Evangelina Tellez single would score Poerner to round out the HPU scoring in the second.

Baillie Trumble recorded the win throwing five innings and giving up four hits and walking none. Keeley Lowrance threw the final frame for the save.

Howard Payne pitchers, Haleigh Caraway, Baillie Trumble and Keeley Lowrance held Sul Ross to just seven hits and no walks for the day.

Being the last home games of the year, graduating players Caraway, Poerner, Tellez, Trumble and Middleton were recognized after the double header.

The four-game sweep places the Lady Jackets in third in the ASC West Division standings with one series left. Howard Payne will be in Abilene next weekend to finish out the regular season against Hardin-Simmons University.
