BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne right-handed Corey Howie gave up just four-hits in a 1-0 shutout win over Hardin-Simmons University Friday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

In the sixth, Carlton Brown singled to the shortstop and then advanced to second on a throwing error by the HSU second baseman to score Colton Buzzard.

Corey Howie (4-3) was solid on the mound for the Jackets striking out eight and walking just one in the complete game win. It was the Jackets first shutout win of the season.

Howard Payne improves to 20-18 overall and 6-10 in West Division action. Hardin-Simmons falls to 21-16 overall and 7-9 in conference play. The two teams will play a double header on friday starting at 1:00 pm.
