SEGUIN, Texas - Corey Howie pitched into the ninth and allowed just one run to lift the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets to a 2-1 American Southwest Conference West Division victory over #23 Texas Lutheran University.

The Yellow Jackets delivered Texas Lutheran's first American Southwest Conference West Division loss of the season.

Howard Payne was out hit 7-5, but the Jackets allowed no extra-base hits. HPU had two doubles  both leading to Yellow Jacket runs. Sam Dollahite doubled and scored in the sixth on a single from Carlton Brown. Kyle Kulczyk doubled in the ninth and scored on a sacrifice fly from Houston Holmes.

Corey Howie scattered seven TLU hits and allowed the one earned run in the win. He struck out four and walked one. Carlton Brown threw the final two outs to record the save.

Howard Payne improved to 18-14 overall and to 4-6 in the ASC West with the victory. Texas Lutheran, ranked 23rd in the latest ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll, dropped to 23-8 overall and to 9-1 in the ASC West.

Both teams play a noon doubleheader Saturday starting at 1:00 pm.
