SEGUIN, Texas – The Howard Payne softball dropped a conference double header to Texas Lutheran University 1-0 and 5-4 Friday afternoon.

In game one both teams combined for just six hits. Texas Lutheran would scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Baillie Trumble recorded the loss giving up just one run on four hits. Jessica Morales and Amanda Cruddas had hit for the Lady Jackets.

Howard Payne got the offense going in their first at bat in game two. A Jessica Morales single to center field scored Tylene Middleton and Evangelina Tellez to gain a 2-0 lead.

After TLU added a run in the bottom of the first, HPU added a run in the top of the third. With runners on second and third, Morales would push home Middleton to give the Lady Jackets a 2-1 lead.

Again TLU responded in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2-2. TLU then gained a 5-2 advantage after scoring one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

The Lady Jackets would pull within one in the seventh on a Middleton single to left field scoring Katie Poerner. With one out and runners at first and second, HPU grounded out twice to end the late game rally.

Haleigh Caraway got the loss for HPU in game two giving up five runs on 11 hits. Tellez and Middleton each had three hits for the Lady Jackets. Carissa Zarate added two hits.

HPU now stands at 13-16 overall and 8-6 in conference. TLU is now 26-8 overall and 16-2 in conference. The two teams will finish out the conference series on Saturday with another double header.
