VB With Strong Showing In Season Openers

HARRISONBURG, Virginia - The Howard Payne University volleyball team opened the 2013 season with 3-0 wins over Salem College and Goucher College on day one of the Eastern Mennonite University Tournament.

The Lady Jackets had a .400 attack pct versus Salem while holding them to a .000 attack pct. for the 25-20, 25-17, 25-11 victory.

Sarah Bishop led Howard Payne with nine kills and a .444 attack pct. Hannah Hicks added seven kills and five digs. Taylor Jordan followed with eight kills and a team high three block assists.

Allyson Adams led HPU with 19 assists and Allison Eaton had 13 assists.

Howard Payne finished out the day with another 3-0 win this time over Goucher College. This match was a little closer than the first with the Lady Jackets winning 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.

Bishop led with 11 kills and 11 digs. Hicks had eight kills and seven digs. Jordan added seven kills and six digs.

Shelby Bridges had a team high 13 digs. Adams and Eaton finished with 18 and 13 assists respectively.

Howard Payne is 2-0 to start the season and will play host Eastern Mennonite and Waynesburg on Saturday.
