HARRISONBURG, Virginia - The Howard Payne volleyball team finished their opening weekend tournament with wins over host Eastern Mennonite University 3-2 and Waynesburg University 3-0. HPU's Hannah Hicks was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Jackets would have their toughest match of the tournament at the start of day two against host Eastern Mennonite. HPU dropped the first set 19-25 but rallied to take sets two and three 25-17 and 25-11. 

After narrowly falling in the fourth set 26-28, Howard Payne finished off Eastern Mennonite 15-11 in the fifth to claim the 3-2 victory.

Hannah Hicks led HPU with 15 kills and four blocks. Sarah Bishop followed closely with 13 kills and 16 digs. Tolli Wylie added 11 kills. Shelby Bridges led with 20 digs and three service aces. Allyson Adams and Allison Eaton had 23 and 22 assists respectively.

The Lady Jackets ended the day defeating Waynesburg University 3-0 (25-17,25-9,25-21). Hicks again led HPU with nine kills and Taylor Jordan followed with eight kills and ten digs. Allyson Adams finished with 25 assists.

Hicks was named to the All-Tournament after after recording 39 kills, 15 digs and nine blocks over four matches. The Lady Jackets were the only team in the tournament to post a perfect 4-0 record.

Howard Payne will play next on September 6th and 7th at the University of Texas at Tyler tournament. They will take on Jarvis Christian College, Rhodes College, Centenary College and Belhaven University that weekend. HPU will then play their home opener on September 17th versus Schreiner University at 7:00 pm.
