TYLER, Texas - The Howard Payne women's volleyball team is off to its best start in the past ten years after going 3-1 at the University of Texas at Tyler tournament this weekend. HPU picked up wins over Jarvis Christian, Centenary College and Belhaven University.
On Friday, the Lady Jackets started with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-7) win over Jarvis Christian College. Sarah Biship had 14 kills and just one attack error. Margje Dantra added eight kills.
In the later match, the Lady Jackets would fall 3-0 (14-25, 16-25, 18-25) to Rhodes College. Shelby Bridges finished with 15 digs.
Howard Payne would rebound on Saturday with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) win over Centenary College. Sarah Bishop had 10 kills with Damstra adding seven kills on no attack errors. Allyson Eaton had 19 assists. Hannah Harnshorn finished with five service aces.
In their last match of the tournament, the Lady Jackets would down Belhaven University 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20). Bishop had 13 kills and Bridges added 18 digs. Eaton would record 19 assists.
Howard Payne is now 7-1 overall to start the season. They will play at home next on September 17th versus Schreiner University at 7:00 pm.
