Jackets With Second Period Comeback

Eric Young scored two goals in the 4-2 victory over Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne men's soccer team got four second period goals to post a 4-3 come from behind win over Schreiner University in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field.

The Yellow Jackets found themselves down early after Schreiner got goals in the 3rd and 9th minutes by Justin Edwards.

With Schreiner holding a 2-0 halftime advantage, the Jackets would get goals from Shay Pate and Eric Young in the 62nd and 67th minutes to tie the match at 2-2.

Schreiner's Justin Edwards would score his third goal of the match in the 73rd minute to give Schreiner the lead back. 

The Jackets would respond with two goals in the final three minutes of regulation to give the Jackets the 4-3 victory. Kevin Ruiz netted an unassisted goal with 2:40 left in regulation to tie the game at 3-3.

Eric Young then scored the game-winning goal with just a 1:54 left on an assist by Shay Pate.

The Jackets did outshoot Schreiner 19-11 in the match and also took five corner kicks to just one for Schreiner.

Allen Chehadi got the win in goal for HPU playing all 90 minutes and recording four saves.

The Jackets are now 1-3-0 overall and Schreiner stands at 0-3-1 overall. Howard Payne will play next on September 14th versus Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio at 4:00 pm.
