Cazares scored a career high 24 points at Louisiana College

Box Score PINEVILLE, Louisiana – Howard Payne's Yessenia Cazares scored a career high 24 points to lead the Lady Jackets to a 78-67 conference victory over Louisiana College Thursday evening.

Howard Payne started the second half with a 10-0 run to break a Louisiana College 38-33 halftime lead. The Lady Jackets would later put together a 16-2 run sparked by two Yessenia Cazares three-point buckets.

Cazares finished with a career high 24 points and hit all four of the Lady Jacket three-point shots in the game. She was 8 of 15 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Down 15 with six minutes remaining, Louisiana College would battle to pull within four, 71-67 with 1:43 left in the game. Howard Payne hit 4 of 5 free-throws and held LC scoreless the rest of the game to claim the 78-67 win.

Howard Payne shot 52% from the field and held LC to just 32% shooting. The Lady Jackets committed 31 turnovers but outrebounded Louisiana College 45-39.

Britani Gattis added 22 points and grabbed a career high 16 rebounds. Gattis was a perfect 8 for 8 from the line. Danyel Bradley had 17 points. Shardena Hudson dished out five assists with four steals. Sarah Van Remmen grabbed seven boards off the bench.

LC was led by Neka Jones with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Danisha Allison had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Natosha Morvant followed with 10 points.

Howard Payne improves to 7-5 overall and 6-3 in conference, Louisiana College falls to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will travel to Clinton, Miss to play Mississippi College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
