BELTON, Texas - The Howard Payne volleyball team fell in straight sets 3-0 (25-12,25-23,25-18) to #23 ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Tuesday evening in conference play.
Both teams exchanged points early before the UMHB pulled away, going on a 8-4 run halfway through the first set to gain advantage. UMHB went on to take the first set 25-12. Howard Payne led early in the second set, but UMHB rallied to tie the match at 20-20 and then pulled away to win the set 25-23. UMHB maintained a steady lead throughout the third, taking the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Tolli Wylie led Howard Payne with six kills and a .263 attack pct.
Breanne Cathey and
Briana Williams each added four kills each.
Allison Eaton had 16 assists and
Tate Sullivan added nine digs.
Howard Payne is now 1-18 overall and 0-11 in conference play. Mary Hardin-Baylor stands at 17-4 overall and 9-1 in conference. Howard Payne will have two home matches this weekend. The Lady Jackets will play LeTourneau University on Friday, Oct 17th at 6:00 pm and East Texas Baptist on Saturday, Oct 18th at 11:00 am. All HPU home matches are played in the Brownwood Coliseum and admission is free.
