Lady Jackets Down LC 80-65

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne women's basketball team moved into fourth in the American Southwest Conference standings with an 80-65 victory over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Danyel Bradley scored a career high 34 points for the Lady Jackets. Despite turning the ball over 31 times, Howard Payne held LC to just 26% shooting from the field.

Bradley broke the American Southwest Conference record for three-point percentage in a game going 7 of 7 from behind the arc. The previous record was held byy Macy Moore of Mary Hardin-Baylor set earlier this semester vs Texas-Tyler [6-of-6].

HPU hit 14 of 31 shots for 45% in the first half to lead 35-32 at the break. The Lady Jackets did hold a 14 point lead midway through the first but LC went on a run to cut the score difference to three.

Louisiana College tied the game at 39-39 on a three-point bucket with 16:12 left in the game.

The Lady Jackets then held LC to just 10 points over the next ten minutes and gained a double digit lead with six minutes to play. HPU would extend their lead and hold for the 80-65 conference win.

Bradley was 7 of 7 from behind the arc and 9 of 10 from the line in her 34 point performance for the Lady Jackets. Senior Britani Gattis ahd 13 points and nine rebounds. Sarah Van Remmen had her fourth double double of the season with12 points and a game high 13 rebounds along with five blocks. Kalin Hanna finished nine rebounds and seven blocks. Sarahi Castillo had 10 rebounds off the bench.

LC was led by Neka Jones with 17 points followed by Skylar Chenevert with10. Natosha Morvant added 10 rebounds.

The Lady Jackets improve to 14-9 overall and 13-7 in conference. Louisiana College falls to 14-8 overall and 12-7 in conference. Howard Payne will finish out their regular season next week at LeTourneau on Thursday and East Texas Baptist on Saturday. ASC tournament information will be released Sunday, February 23rd in the afternoon.
